Today is the 4th. I talked to my great uncle who reminded me that many in our family have served in the military and fought to preserve our freedoms. My father, my step-mother, my grandfather, my uncle, my cousin's son. All were transformed by their experiences, and the rest of us benefited from their sacrifice.
My eldest daughter had signed up with the Marines, but did not live to serve.
When I go downtown to the mall today to watch the fireworks with my youngest daughter, I will keep them in mind.
